What you need to know about Lake LBJ in the heart of Texas.
The Highland Lakes
Lake LBJ (short for Lyndon B. Johnson) is 1 of 6 reservoirs on the Colorado River about 45 miles northwest of Austin. These 6 reservoirs, also known as The Highland Lakes, include Lake LBJ, Inks Lake, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis, Lake Buchanan, & Lake Austin. Each lake is separated by a damn. The damns help to regulate flood control and are used to create recreational opportunities and hydroelectric power. Each of these lakes are great places to own property, but Lake LBJ real estate is our favorite! Read on to find out just one reason why.

Lake LBJ – Pass Through Lake
Lake LBJ has been known as a constant level lake for years, but after recent years, we have reclassified it as a pass through lake. Under normal circumstances Lake LBJ water levels do not vary much. This is because whatever comes in from up stream is simultaneously released down stream. This is due to the Ferguson power plant run by LCRA on Lake LBJ. The lake keeps the power plant cool. It is important for the water level not to fluctuate too much or else the power plant could either overheat (if water levels are too low) or flood (if water levels are too high). While very drastic weather can put a wrench in the attempt to keep water levels constant, it is not nearly as likely or common as with typical lakes. It is not only safe, but often lucrative for those wishing to invest in lake LBJ real estate or lake LBJ waterfront homes. This is one reason one Lake LBJ waterfront property is our favorite to sell and also, invest in ourselves. Click here to see our featured properties.
